Hill's exhibits on energy, natural history and native wildlife species
are all located in the pyramid museum. An interactive exhibit on
solar energy sponsored by JEA teaches our visitors about electricity
and energy conservation. Photovoltaic panels on the buildings exterior
convert sunlight to electricity and power the displays.

Black
Bear Exhibit: Do
Bears Live in Florida? Yes! Florida is home to the Florida Black
Bear, which is a subspecies of the American Black Bear. An estimated
12,000 Black Bears once roamed areas in and around what is now Florida.
Only between 1000 and 3000 survive in Florida today. The population
decrease is due to habitat destruction and constructing highways
through the black bear habitat. Seventy-one bears where killed on
roadways in 1997. The Florida Black Bear is a threatened species,
but was denied placement on the Endangered Species List by the Fish
and Wildlife Service in 1998. Come see our newest exhibit and learn
about the Florida Black Bear.
