Tree Hill Artist in Residence - Marc Boese

Tree Hill Nature Center moves towards their fourth decade of offering important environmental programs for the Jacksonville community with an enhanced mission of offering a variety of experiences in nature. With their focus remaining on green education, opportunities to integrate the arts have been added to Tree Hill's important nature programs.  Realizing a leader in the arts community is paramount to the success of our enhanced programs and activities, we are proud to announce our 2010-2011 Artist in Residence... Marc Boese.

Marc Boese is currently a Professor of Video Production at Florida State College of Jacksonville, and has over 15 years experience in film and video. He began his artistic life at an early age as a painter and started college at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) as a painting major, and later chose film and video. He holds a B.F.A. and M.A. in Film and Television from SCAD.

His industry experience comes from years behind the camera as a Creative Director and Photojournalist at CBS news, and local affiliates of ABC and Fox. Most notably he covered the 9-11 attack in New York City. His artistic endeavors include painting exhibits, photo galleries, and multiple film screenings nationwide. He’s produced 2 feature length film, multiple award winning short films, music videos, and award winning commercials.

This year marks his fourth year at FSCJ, and as a member of the Jacksonville community. He is the author of the blog: A Greener Boese, which documents his 365 ways to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. This follows his firm beliefs that our planet is steadily and rapidly declining, and is in need of everyones commitment to improving our environment. This is where the marriage of Marc and Tree Hill Nature Center come together. Weeping at the desire of consumers to buy “McMansions” (houses over 3,000 square feet) and the carbon footprint they leave, he and his wife Trudi built their own house with a total of 151 square feet, including a loft for sleeping. The house has a full bathroom, kitchen, living room, computer area, and a washer and dryer. Their dogs, Cleopatra and Lilly love the attention they get in the smaller quarters, and love having a larger yard. He is vegan and drives a diesel VW that runs on biodiesel, while Trudi drives a Smart car.

His video work can be found at http://vimeo.com/boese
