47-foot River Mural to be Unveiled at Local Preserve
JAXPORT-sponsored mural part of overall environmental program
What: As part of its environmental awareness program, the Jacksonville Port Authority has sponsored a local artist to paint a mural of the St. Johns River and all its users - human and aquatic - at Tree Hill Nature Center, a 50-acre nonprofit wildlife preserve located in Jacksonville's Arlington suburb. The mural entitled, "A River in Harmony," will be unveiled at a ceremony featuring information about JAXPORT's environmental programming and upcoming Tree Hill programs.
Who: The event will feature comments by Tree Hill Executive Director Lucy Cortese, mural artist Clay Gentry and JAXPORT's Senior Director of Real Estate Development and Planning David Kaufman.
Why: The mural complements other JAXPORT environmental programs, including a manatee awareness and protection effort, the creation of saltmarsh wetlands on Buck Island and Fanning Island, the preservation of more than 50 acres of environmentally-sensitive salt marsh along Wynn's Creek, and restoration of Dutton Island along the Intracoastal Waterway in Atlantic Beach.
